Republic Square
This cozy square with its terraces, statue of Queen Victoria, surrounded by the Palace, National library, Casa del Commun Tesoro and Republic street.
The square has known various names, originally the name was Piazza dei Cavalieri and in the British period the name was first Piazza Regina and then Victoria Square.
Originally a statue of grandmaster Manoel de Vilhena stood on the square. In 1887 the statue was moved to Floriana and a statue of Queen Victoria was replaced to commemorate the 50th birthday of her.

Additional information
Statue of Queen Victoria, dressed in Maltese lace. Malta was heavily bombed during WWII and at close scrutiny one can see that the statue has been moved an inch to the right by the air pressure resulting from bombardments.
