Casino Maltese
The Casino Maltese is the oldest prestigious businesses and social club, founded in 1852. It is considered as a living society of prestige, a national institution, forming part of Malta's history. Many royals, aristocrats, presidents, dignitaries and diplomats have visited the Casino Maltese. The Club's motto is "Omnibus Idem", meaning the same for everyone.
The building started of as the common treasury of the Order of St John and in the British era it served as government offices and treasury. In the late 1800s it became the Grand Hotel. On its façade there is a solarium (a sundial).
Over the years it has seen many prominent visors, among other Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Prins Charles of Wales and Queen Elizabeth II, when she was still a young princess.
