Xara Palace
When the Order of St John arrived in Malta in 1530, they took over the political power of the islands from the old nobility of Mdina. From then onwards, the Citta Notabile was no longer the capital city of Malta.

The Xara Palace was initially built in the seventeenth century as a residence, one of many, for the noble family Moscati Parisio. From 1530 onwards, it was also the temporary lodging for the Grand Master when he visited Mdina.
It is one of the oldest places of hospitality on the islands. The Xara Palace is still an exclusive hotel and has a number of restaurants, among which the Trattoria AD 1530 (groundfloor) and the Mondion (upper floor).
