Triton fountain
Before one enters the city through the new City Gate, the visitor is welcomed by the Triton Fountain, sculpted by the renowned Maltese Vincent Apap (1909-2003). The Tritons are not mermaids but mermen, mythological figures, the sons of Poseidon and Amphitrite, god and goddess of the sea. Recently, the fountain has been restored to its original form.
