The Greek Gate
The Greek Gate, one of the three gates, is a small gate of Mdina, at the bottom of the ditch. Over the gate, on the interior side, there is a painting of St Nicholas, breaking the bread. This is also a very old Maltese tradition of hospitality, breaking the bread and sharing it with guests.
This gate has a number of foundation stones from the Roman era, while the gate itself was built in medieval times. Architect De Mondion created the baroque outlook of the exterior of the gate in 1724, during his reconstruction programme of the city. This gate gave access to the Greek and Jewish sections of the city.
