The Granaries

The Granaries are also known and more popularly in Maltese Il-Fossos. The Granaries are underground grain silos, commissioned between 1847 and 1851 by the Governor of Malta, Richard More O'Farrell.

These are conical in shape and are closed of with large circular capping stones to protect the grain against rats, pigeons and other thieves. During WWII they were still in use.

You can find these Granaries nearby Fort St. Elmo and in the Publius Square. In case of Publius Square there is a Granarie with a glass cover, you can look into the Granarie.

Address and street / location can be found on our map, click on Guide in the menu bar and you will get a map with markers.
