The church of the Nativity of our Lady

The Franciscans came to the island of Malta in 1492 and built their first monastery and in 1500 their first church was built in Rabat.

Phillippe Villiers de L’Isle Adam was the first Grandmaster in Malta and had a room in the monastery where he died in 1534. This room has been restored.

On 23rd August 2017 two wooden construction beams disappeared, leaving a hole and falling debris caused destruction and damage. The church has been closed now.
