Ta' Braxia Cemetery
Ta' Braxia Cemetery is in Hamrun, just before one enters Floriana via the main road. It is a civil burial ground, south-east of the adjacent Pieta Military Cemetery. Lord Stanmore had commissioned the chapel on the occasion of his wife's death (1887), in her memory.
John Loughborough Pearson from London was the architect. The architect of the cemetery itself was Luigi Emanuele Galizia who worked on the project in 1856.
The same architect designed the Adolorata Cemetery and the Turkish Cemetery in Malta. The need for this non-Catholic cemetery arose during the Crimean War in 1856, as other such cemeteries were full.
