St. Bartholomew’s Chapel


This chapel was built sometime in 1440 by Constantin Bartolo. In 1550 the chapel was  restored.

It is the only mediaeval chapel in Rabat. The facade has a pointed arc above the main entrance and inside are also pointed arches to support the ceiling of the chapel.

From this chapel in Notary Emmanuele Vitale organized the uprising in 1798 against the French who were occupying Malta.
