Roman Villa
By accident the relics of a wealthy, aristocratic Roman mansion (domvs) were discovered in 1881. The relics, among which are complicated mosaics, give enough insight into understanding the wealth of the Romans and the story about this discovery gave enough foundation to build a museum at Domvs Romana.
In this museum you also find the building in which the relics of the domvs were put after the first excavation. This building is the first in Malta which is built with the purpose of protecting an archaeological find and collection. Roman antiques and objects , such as left over pieces of marble in the streets of Mdina, were found on the island.
The Domvs Romana is believed to have been built in the beginning of the 1st century BC, and it remained in use until the 2nd century AD.
