Love Monument

What the Maltese artist Richard England has achieved with his monument is what you do with art. You talk about it, don't like it, accept it, may find it beautiful or terribly ugly and / or think it doesn't belong in this bay. So not everyone is in love with it but has an opinion about it.

The letters LOVE of this artwork is a mirror image from the street side and upside down. You can find anything about this artwork, but it certainly “ lives”. The monument is different every moment of the day and whatever the weather. With the correct position of the sun, the shadow creates the word LOVE with large letters on the pavement and it plays with the letters for some time. When the sea is calm and the water is smooth, the word LOVE stands upright by reflection. When it is cloudy, the word LOVE is there but it is not “dancing”, when the clouds converge and it rains, then the word “LOVE” looks sad.

The artist has been able to portray love and its reflection but has also shown that love can be there in all its glory, in small parts and sometimes even when it is not there. This artwork is created in simplicity and reflects life in all its simplicity and complexity.

Your guide stops his interpretation of the artwork and his opinion is that at least what you can expect from art has been achieved,  makes  you think about it and is being discussed.
