House of Notary Bezzina
This house was of notary Bezzina. It was the place where the French Commander of Mdina was thrown off the balcony.
In 1798 Napoleon Bonaparte took the islands from the Order and he evicted all the knights.
The French started looting all the church silver and Bonaparte stole all the money from the Università (the civil administrative council of Mdina).
At a particular auction of Maltese church silver, the Maltese started revolting. They chased the French garrison commander of Mdina, a certain Lazarre Masson, who fled into the house of notary Bezzina.
Then the Maltese kicked the door and a fight ensued. Commander Masson was defenestrated, and he was thrown headlong off the balcony and cracked his head on the pavement.
The revolution against the French had started!
